Smoky Mountain Firefly 2024. The public may apply for the limited viewing opportunity by entering a lottery for a vehicle reservation through www.recreation.gov. For about two weeks each year, elkmont in great smoky mountains national park becomes the site of the most magnificent synchronized firefly (also called lightning bug) gathering in the world.
